Two women powerlifters of Orissa bagged two medals in the Federation Cup Championship, which concluded at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur today.
According to Orissa Powerlifting Association Chitta Ranjan Swain, Mandakini Mahanta won a gold medal in 52kg weight class, while Sangita Singh scured a silver in 75kg category.
Mayurbhanj lifter Mandakini lifted a total of 330 kg, which included 117.5 kg squat, 62.5 kg benchpress and 150 kg deadlift. Her impressive performance fetched her the runner-up prize in the ‘Strong Women of India’ contest.
Mandakini also became eligible to represent the country in the Asian Powerlifting Championship to be held at Udaypur (Rajasthan) from May 1 to 6. She missed the Asian meet at Tashkent last year due to financial constraint.
Rourkela girl Sangita bagged the silver in junior 75 kg weight class with a total lift of 362.5 kg (squad 75kg, benchpress 62.5kg, deadlift 140kg).
